Microsoft Will No Longer Support Office 2019
Microsoft Office is one of the most widely used productivity suites in the world, and it’s not surprising that many people have chosen to use retail or boxed copies of the software instead of subscribing to Office 365. However, those who have chosen to use retail or boxed copies of Office 2019 or older may soon find that their version of Office will stop working with Office 365 services this year.
This means, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, bug fixes, or security fixes for Office 2019 or 2016 vulnerabilities which may be subsequently reported or discovered. This includes security updates which can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
Microsoft Office 2019 & 2016 End of Support
The reason for this is that Microsoft has made some changes to their licensing model. Starting on October 10th, 2023, Microsoft Office 365 services will no longer support Office 2019 or older versions. Those who have retail or boxed copies of Office 2019 or older will no longer be able to access Office 365 services such as OneDrive, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online. Unfortunately, this will make it difficult for those who rely on these services to work efficiently and effectively.
There are several reasons why Microsoft has made this change to their licensing model. One of the main reasons is to ensure that users have the most up-to-date security features and bug fixes. By only supporting the latest version of Office, Microsoft can ensure that users are protected from security threats and that their software is functioning optimally.
What Does This Mean for You?
So, what does this mean for those who have retail or boxed copies of Office 2019 or older? Microsoft won’t be taking any current measures to outright block older Office products from connecting to Microsoft 365 services, but there is no guarantee of your security or functionality while using 2019 or 2016 versions.
In fact, Microsoft has already begun to block 2013 Office 365 products and services. Losing access to these online services means losing access to your cloud-based data. Anything stored locally on your computer will remain.
If you’re using Office 2019 or older and rely on Office 365 services, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of Office. Because we value your security at TREYSTA, we highly recommend that you upgrade to Microsoft’s subscription-based services to ensure continued support.
What You Can Do
In conclusion, if you’re using retail or boxed copies of Office 2019 or older, be aware that your version of Office may stop working with Office 365 services later this year. To avoid any disruption to your workflow, it’s recommended that you upgrade to the latest version of Office and subscribe to Office 365. By doing so, you’ll have access to the latest security features, bug fixes, and Office 365 services, ensuring that you can continue to work efficiently and effectively.
